Exclusive: #Musk orders removal of #Twitter suicide prevention feature

“The removal of feature, known as #ThereIsHelp, has not been previously reported. It had shown at top of specific searches contacts for support orgs in many countries related to mental health, HIV, vaccines, child sexual exploitation, COVID, gender-based violence, natural disasters and freedom of expression”

I don't think journalists (in general) -- and certainly not the organizations they work for -- fully understand the threat Musk represents to the future of free expression and journalism itself.

Begging him to reinstate the banned accounts is pure folly. It is bended-knee supplication to a sociopath who now controls a powerful media company. But the power of his company depends in no small degree on keeping journalists there.

Leave. Now.

Bari Weiss debased herself on this man's behalf pushing his "Twitter Files" propaganda and this is the thanks she gets in return after gently criticizing Musk for banning journalists.

I explained to the world (ok, to a journalist) that Elon can ban whatever he wants on Twitter, but he's in for a bad and stupid time if he thinks he can sue a kid for posting publicly available flight data.

Elon being Elon is familiar -- so familiar that it's no longer even particularly grotesque. But Elon fans tying themselves in knots trying to explain how WELL ACTUALLY all of this is PERFECTLY CONSISTENT with free speech absolutism he promised . . . . well, that's showing some new lows in groveling and abasement.

My colleague @taylorlorenz is suspended after seeking comment. I'm still blocked from using Twitter until I delete a tweet that's a piece of reporting.
